Adapting Your Home to Its Selling Season – Choosing Your Selling Season

Many homeowners assume they should sell their home in the spring. That’s because it’s the busiest time of the year for real estate. It seems like everyone wants to buy a home, everyone wants to sell a home. Though it’s a great time to jump in and buy or sell, the rest of the year is great, as well. Buying or selling in the off season won’t lead to settling on homes or prices. It just means that you’ll need to emphasize the various seasonal perks of your home!

Over the course of the next several blog posts, we are going to help you adapt your home to its selling season. Our North Hills Raleigh real estate agent has a few tips for each time of year. These tips will help make your property more attractive, according to the temperature and upcoming holidays.

First, it’s important to choose a selling season to work with. Depending on your timeline and how quickly you need to sell, you’ll want to choose a season that works best for you. Are you planning a summer vacation? Do you want to move before school starts? Are you worried that moving during winter might pose an issue with weather related problems? Think about every season and how it might affect your move.

In late summer, the market slows way down. Then, it begins to get busy again for a short time in the fall. November and December are customarily the slowest months of the entire year. December is often the slowest due to holidays. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t choose November or December though. Many buyers are looking for a great deal on a home during this time.

To choose the best time of year to sell your home, consider the following questions:

  • How quickly do you need to move? If you’re not in a hurry, don’t rush. If you need to move before school starts in the fall, it might be time to get on the move!
  • Are you moving to accommodate your new job location? If so, you’ll need to sell ASAP.
  • What season best suits the home you’re selling? If you have a pool, consider spring and summer. If the fireplace is the main feature of a living room, consider fall and winter. Use the features of a home to help with decision making.

We hope these tips help you choose the best time of year to sell your home! As you choose your selling season, it’s time to begin adapting your home for it! Visit back with us, next post to learn how to do this for spring and summer!
